Paphos man shoots at relatives home over land differences

A verbal altercation over a land dispute, nearly ended up in tragedy at the Paphos district community of Mesogi during the early hours, with police making an arrest and opening a case that includes threat of violence, malicious damage to a home and illegal possession of firearm charges.

The incident escalated from a shouting match the night before between two relatives, with one of them grabbing a hunting rifle and allegedly shooting at the other’s home.

The 46 year old alleged perpetrator, was arrested and remanded in custody following a complaint that he had fired shots on his 49 year old relative’s house at 5.30 this morning.

The complainant appears to have told police about long standing land differences with the 46 year old, on which they exchanged verbal blows last night publicly, at a local club.

He then claimed to have heard three gunshots fired at his home early today.

Police conducted a search and discovered shrapnel from a hunting rifle on mobile telephony equipment installed on the 49 year old’s roof.

The alleged shooter was remanded in custody for possession and use of a firearm in a residential area, causing malicious damage and threat of violence.

The Paphos CID is investigating.
