Unlicensed, uninsured drink-driver arrested after three-car pile-up in Paphos

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening in Paphos after driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a three-car pile-up.

The incident unfolded on Andrea Omirou street when the 25-year-old’s vehicle moved from the roadway onto the right side of the road and struck a parked car under circumstances being investigated by police. The impact pushed the parked car into a second parked vehicle nearby.

Immediately after the crash, the 25-year-old’s vehicle caught fire at the front. The Fire Service, alerted by residents, arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

The driver underwent an alcohol test showing 76 microgrammes, more than three times the maximum permitted limit of 22 microgrammes.

Police additionally established he was not a licensed driver and was driving without vehicle insurance cover.

The 25-year-old was taken by ambulance to hospital immediately after the crash where he was kept for precautionary observation.

Paphos traffic police are investigating the case.
