A protest for Gaza, organised by the Pancyprian Peace Council, is scheduled to take place today, Saturday, 13/09/2025, at 4:30 p.m. in Eleftheria Square.
According to the organisers, the event will begin with a brief gathering and will be followed by a march in Nicosia (Eleftheria Square – Ministry of Finance – PASYDY – Lord Byron Avenue Lights – EU House – returning to Eleftheria Square).
Members of the police will be on-site to ensure the smooth running of the event and to provide traffic assistance.
Participants are asked to comply with the instructions of police officers.
It should be noted that, based on the Public Gatherings and Processions Law 151(I) of 2025, the organiser of the gathering or march is required to ensure its smooth and peaceful conduct, to cooperate with the local government authority within whose boundaries it is taking place, or is expected to take place, with the Police and with the Responsible Officer who is appointed as a liaison between the Police and the organiser, and to comply with their instructions.
Furthermore, this specific legislation gives the police the authority, where deemed necessary, to impose restrictions on the gathering or march, as well as to dissolve it, particularly when it ceases to be peaceful, when it is conducted in violation of the imposed restrictions, when there is a risk of physical harm to a person or damage to public or private property, and in the event of a spontaneous or emergency gathering, when there is no compliance with the imposed restrictions.
Additionally, in cases where there is reasonable suspicion that the gathering or march is about to become non-peaceful due to the actions of a person, or in the context of the commission or likely commission of offenses by a person who conceals, or covers, or alters their features in a way that they cannot be identified, the police may order them to remove the object, product, or device that makes them unrecognisable.
