The Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) has warned that electricity demand coverage will be marginal tonight between 18:30 and 22:00, calling on the public to reduce consumption to avoid potential power cuts lasting up to 30 minutes per consumer group.
In an announcement, the TSO informed the public that electricity demand coverage during these hours is expected to be marginal due to technical problems and constraints. The possibility of consumer load cuts cannot be ruled out to maintain safe operation of the electrical system.
Should power cuts be deemed necessary, the TSO estimates that the maximum continuous period will not exceed 30 minutes for each consumer group.
Appeal for reduced consumption
“The TSO is trying to manage the situation in the best possible way and appeals to consumers to reduce electricity consumption during the aforementioned hours. Any assistance from the consuming public will contribute to avoiding potential consumer load cuts,” the statement reads.
The operator recommends temporarily reducing the use of air conditioning and postponing the operation of washing machines, dishwashers and other high-consumption appliances during the critical period.
The TSO acknowledges the inconvenience that may be caused to consumers, however, the safe and reliable operation of the electrical system remains a priority.
