Cyprus’s tourism sector is breaking records, with May revenues showing a sharp increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Statistical Service.
Based on the results of the Travelers Survey, tourism revenue in May 2025 amounted to €373.3 million ($410.7 million), a 20.2% increase from the €310.5 million ($341.6 million) recorded in May 2024.
The data also reveals per capita spending by tourists, highlighting which markets may be worth targeting. In recent years, tourism officials have stated that the goal is not high arrival numbers but rather the quality and revenue generated by tourism.
The average daily expenditure for all tourists in May 2025 was €96.18, with a per capita spend of €779.08 over an average stay of 8.1 days. Total arrivals for the month reached 479,160.
According to the figures, the most generous spenders in May 2025 were Israeli tourists, with an average daily expenditure of €153.11, or €627.74 per person over their 4.1-day average stay. Arrivals from Israel for the period were 45,249.
Swiss tourists ranked second, spending an average of €144.50 per day, or €924.80 per person, over an average stay of 6.4 days. A total of 7,249 Swiss tourists arrived during the same period.
Dutch tourists followed, spending €126.12 per day, or €971.15 per person, over an average stay of 7.7 days. There were 8,078 Dutch arrivals.
British tourists, who constitute the largest tourist market (37.4% of total tourists in May 2025), spent an average of €97.77 per day. Their per capita spending reached €948.39 over a 9.7-day average stay. A total of 179,150 tourists arrived from the United Kingdom.
The second-largest market was Israel, with 9.4% of total arrivals. Polish tourists were the third-largest market, with 36,800 arrivals (7.7%) and a daily spend of €90.28. Their per capita spending was €595.84 over an average stay of 6.6 days.
Tourists from Greece, Sweden, and Poland spent the least. Greek tourists spent €60.19 per day, with a per capita spend of €391.21 over a 6.5-day stay. Swedish tourists spent €88.79 per day, with a per capita spend of €728.01 over an 8.2-day stay.
The data shows that the average length of stay for all tourists in Cyprus is 8.1 days. British tourists had the longest average stay at 9.7 days, followed by Germans at 8.6 days, and Americans, Austrians, and Swedes at 8.2 days.
The shortest average stays were by Israeli tourists at 4.1 days, Italians at 6 days, and Swiss, Greek, and Polish tourists at 6.4, 6.5, and 6.6 days, respectively.
For the period of January to May 2025, tourism revenues are estimated at €955.8 million, up 27.2% from €751.2 million in the corresponding period of 2024.
