The annual growth rate of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) in January 2024 stood at 2.1%, according to data released today by the Statistical Service.
Compared to the annual performance of December, which was 1.9%, the Harmonized HICP shows a slight acceleration. The Harmonized HICP in January 2024 reached 112.67 units compared to 114.09 in December 2023, showing a decrease of 1.3% on a monthly basis.
Compared to January 2023, the category of Restaurants and Hotels showed the highest positive change at 5.8%, while the Transport category showed the greatest negative change at -1.3%.
By economic category, the largest decrease on an annual basis (compared to January 2023) was recorded in the energy sector, while non-energy industrial products showed a marginal decrease of 0.1%. Conversely, increases were recorded in Services and in Food and Alcoholic Beverages at 4% and 3.2%, respectively.
