The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance announces that through the implementation of the Government Decree for the increase of the National Minimum Wage from €940 to €1000, wages for the month of January have been increased for approximately 25,000 low-wage workers.
The gradual improvement of citizens’ income, especially those who need protection from the risk of poverty and social exclusion, is a governmental priority aligned with the guidelines of the European Commission and is implemented according to the capabilities of the economy.
For the effective enforcement of the provisions of the Decree and the payment of increased wages to beneficiaries, the Ministry of Labour will conduct targeted inspections at workplaces, analyze social insurance contribution data, and investigate any possible complaints.
At the same time, it will utilize, if necessary, the provisions of the legislation, which include the imposition of an administrative fine of €250 per employee, prosecution with a maximum penalty of €5000, and €50 per day for continuing violations, as well as the obligation to pay any accumulated amounts owed.
