In a recent report by the European organization VaasaETT (HEPI), which publishes monthly rankings of electricity and natural gas prices in 33 European capitals, Nicosia held the eighth-highest residential electricity cost in December 2023. This ranking includes all taxes and surcharges.
According to the HEPI methodology, the final electricity price for households in Nicosia was 31.5 cents per kilowatt-hour. Capitals with higher electricity costs than Nicosia in December were Dublin (42.75 cents per kilowatt-hour), London (40.33 cents), Berlin (38.09 cents), Copenhagen (37.05 cents), Prague (36.50 cents), Rome (36.38 cents), and Brussels (35.14 cents per kilowatt-hour).
Athens ranked as the 16th most expensive capital for residential electricity, with a cost of 24.33 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to the same measurements.
The average final price of residential electricity in the 27 EU countries in December, as reported by the same organization, was 25 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Among the European capitals with the lowest electricity costs were Oslo (13.36 cents per kilowatt-hour), Sofia (13.18 cents), Valletta (12.32 cents), and Belgrade (10.48 cents).
