Eighteen public works projects valued at €112 million will get underway across the island this year, according to data from the Department of Public Works.
These include the second phase of the Nicosia ring road, Famagusta Avenue in Nicosia, and an enclosure around the energy complex in Vassilikos.
The second phase of the Nicosia ring road has a cost of €25.8 million (including VAT) and with a delivery timetable of two years. The first stage is already under construction.
Famagusta Avenue in Nicosia comes with a price tag of €10.4 million, while the enclosure around the energy centre in Vassilikos is costed at €4.5 million with a delivery timetable of one year.
Also, €10.1 million has been budgeted for the energy upgrade of the building hosting the Audit Office – a two-year project.
Other infrastructure projects include stabilisation works on a section of the old Paphos to Limassol road (B6) near Aphrodite’s Rock – this will take15 months and cost €4 million.
In addition, there is the construction of a bridge connecting the light industries area in Tremithousa to the industrial zone in Paphos – lasting 54 weeks and costing €2 million.
Another project is the construction of infrastructure for bicycles linking the University of Nicosia with the town centre.
Meanwhile anti-flood works will get underway in the area of Alambra (old Nicosia to Limassol road), with a cost of €4.2 million.
Also, improvement works on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue in Kato Deftera, at an expense of €6 million.
Improvements to the existing road connecting Paphos to Polis will take about a year to complete, costing €3 million.
Among the 18 projects coming down the pipe this year is the procurement, installation and operation of a UTC (Urban Traffic Control) system. It will cost €8.3 million.
According to the Department of Public Works, the projects will start this year provided that all required procedures and expropriations have taken place.
