Covid hospitalisations on the rise

There has been an increase in people with Covid-19 being hospitalised in Cyprus in recent days, according to state health services organisation (Okypy) press officer Charalambos Charilaou.

Charilaou was speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Tuesday and said around 70 people with Covid-19 are currently being treated in hospital. He added that three of them are currently in intensive care, but that they are “out of danger”.

He also said that most of those admitted are aged between 75 and 80 years old, and that they are “mainly coming from nursing homes, where it seems there are chains of transmission.”

Additionally, he noted that most of those hospitalised had not received a Covid-19 vaccine during the Autumn, and that they may have also caught the virus during the holiday period, when people were mixing at an increased rate.

He urged the public to “continue to observe public hygiene measures”.
