Despite a decrease in the overall number of building permits recorded during the period of January-September 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, their total value increased by 15.7%.
Additionally, there was a 2.9% rise in the total area covered by the new building permits.
According to data published on Wednesday by the Statistical Service, during the period of January-September 2023, 5,274 building permits were issued, compared to 5,701 in the corresponding period of the previous year, marking a decrease of 7.5%.
The total value of these permits increased by 15.7%, and the overall covered area increased by 2.9%.
The number of residential units showed an increase of 8.6%, mainly due to a significant rise in the number of permits for residential apartment buildings (24.4%).
In contrast, other categories such as detached houses, semi-detached houses, and mixed-use buildings experienced declines of 12.1%, 5.3%, and 5.8%, respectively.
In September 2023, the number of building permits reached 612, according to the Statistical Service. The total value of these permits amounted to €275.4 million, covering an area of 214.1 thousand square meters.
These permits are expected to result in the construction of 1,030 residential units.
According to the Statistical Service, building permits serve as a significant indicator of future activity in the construction sector.
