Six months ahead of the European elections, citizens believe that the actions of the EU have an impact on their daily lives.
According to a recent survey, 67% of respondents in Cyprus (72% in the EU) believe that their country has benefited from EU membership, with 87% of Cypriot citizens (70% in the EU) stating that EU actions impact their daily lives.
In the EU, 68% would vote in the European elections if held immediately, while in Cyprus, the figure stands at 50%.
Public health tops the list of political priorities for Cypriot citizens (50%), followed by the economy and job creation (43%), and the fight against poverty and social exclusion (42%).
Furthermore, 86% of respondents in Cyprus desire a more significant role for the Parliament.
Over seven in ten European citizens believe that their country has benefited from EU participation, with 34% citing the EU’s contribution to peacekeeping and security and improved cooperation between member countries.
The overall image of the EU remains stable, with 45% of Europeans holding a positive view, 38% neutral, and 16% negative, compared to March 2023.
In Cyprus, 41% of citizens have a positive view of the EU, while 33% are neutral, and 25% hold a negative view.
Moreover, 67% of Cypriot respondents believe that their country has benefited from EU participation.
Commenting on the survey results, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola stated, “This Eurobarometer shows that Europe matters. In this challenging geopolitical and socio-economic context, citizens trust the European Union to find solutions. The overwhelming majority of Europeans believe that EU actions have a positive impact on their daily lives.”
In Cyprus, 45% express interest in the upcoming June elections, and half of the citizens would participate if the elections were held next week.
