Despite the enticing Black Friday discounts, today’s scenes at shopping malls resembles an ordinary day, according to the President of the Cyprus Consumers Association, Marios Drousiotis.
Speaking to philenews, Drousiotis noted that traffic at shops remained rather subdued at least until 10 a.m., after his visit to a capital city shopping centre. He also highlighted that the turnout was significantly lower compared to previous years, expressing sympathy for the shop owners. “I feel sorry for the store owners,” he remarked.
When asked to comment on the low attendance, Drousiotis attributed it to some shop owners misleading customers. Furthermore, he mentioned that as of last Tuesday, there were 12 complaints filed with the Association.
“Some stores are responsible for not treating consumers well. Prices are not favourable. The discounts are the same as during other sale periods, making them unattractive,” he said.
In conclusion, his message to consumers is, “If we don’t need a product, don’t buy it, and of course, interested buyers should scrutinise the final price.”
