Two men were arrested on Saturday for questioning over their suspected involvement in an attack against two French sailors at Limassol’s marina a day earlier.

Police issued the warrants for two men aged 38 and 40 on Saturday morning.

The two French sailors, aged 22 and 25 reported to police that they were attacked by unknown men while at a nightclub at the marina area.

The 22-year-old was found injured with injuries to his face and was transferred to Limassol general hospital where he was kept for treatment. The 25-year-old was taken to a private clinic with injuries to his face too.

He told police that at around 12:15am on Friday, while he was at a nightclub, they were attacked by strangers.

Police secured witness statements against the 38-year-old and 40-year-old men and are investigating a case of causing grievous bodily harm.

Limassol’s police spokesman Lefteris Kyriacou told the Cyprus Mail it was not a racially motivated attack and the two sailors had not been mistaken for migrants.

“It was scuffles between the two of them at a club, nothing to do with race.”
