Safe Bulkers, Inc. is an international provider of seaborne transportation services of drybulk commodities. With a modern fleet of 44 bulk carriers with an aggregate carrying capacity of 4.5 million dwt and an average age of 10.3 years, the Company’s vessels transport a wide range of dry bulk cargoes across the globe, including major bulks as grains, coal and iron ore and other minor bulks as bauxite, alumina and fertilizer.

Safe Bulkers is incorporated in the Marshall Islands with offices in Cyprus, Greece, Monaco and Switzerland. The Company is listed on the NYSE since 2008 with its common stock trading under the symbol “SB”. With 44 out of 42 of the Company’s vessels flying the Cyprus flag, Safe Bulkers is the largest ship-owner under the Cyprus Registry.

Safe Bulkers fleet consists of dry bulk vessels of four sizes, namely Capesize vessels with carrying capacity of about 180,000 dwt; Post Panamax vessels with carrying capacities of between 85,000 dwt and 100,000 dwt; Kamsarmax vessels with carrying capacities of between 80,000 dwt and 83,000 dwt; and Panamax vessels with carrying capacities of between 75,000 and 78,000 dwt. The Company’s operations are managed by its Cyprus and Greek-based management companies, Safe Bulkers Management Ltd and Safety Management Overseas S.A. which provide full technical, administrative and commercial services to its vessels.

Committed to maintaining one of the most modern fleet in the dry bulk segment and focused on achieving greater environmental footprint of its fleet, the Company has a head start on the industry’s decarbonization path, through a number of strategies aligned with the IMO’s targets on greenhouse gas reduction, including; fleet renewal and modernization by selling some of its oldest vessels while selectively acquiring second-hand tonnage and ordering new vessels, optimization of vessels’ performance and utilization, and application of newer eco-efficient technologies.

Following the recent deliveries of its first two Phase 3 newbuilds MV “Vassos” and MV “Climate Respect”, the Company has an outstanding orderbook for nine newbuild dry bulk vessels with prompt scheduled delivery dates, five in 2023, three in 2024 and one in 2025. All the newbuilds will be designed to meet the future requirements of IMO regulations and especially those relating to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (EEDI – Phase 3), as well as those related to nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx-Tier III). As the MV “Vassos” and MV “Climate Respect”, all the newbuilds will fly the Cyprus flag, enhancing the Cypriot Registry with the most advanced green ships of the global market.

Safe Bulkers understands the value of building resilient communities and strengthening the places we live and work. Being the largest shipowner under the Cyprus Registry, Safe Bulkers is undertaking significant efforts to expand access to opportunity especially for young people. In 2021, the company announced its annual scholarship program for studies in maritime fields, focusing on technical and legal studies, in order to encourage more young Cypriots to consider the option of a career in the shipping sector.
