Zygi regeneration enters second phase with €2m project

The second phase of Zygi’s core regeneration will begin in 2026 after the Larnaca District Administration issued a tender on 29 December for construction work valued at €2 million.

The tender closes on 13 February 2026. The project is co-funded by the THALIA Programme.

Works will include new paving and pavements, installation of modern urban equipment and lighting, and moving utility services underground, according to the project design. Green spaces and rest areas will also be enhanced.

Separately, futsal, volleyball and basketball courts costing €457,000 will be built in Zygi starting in early 2026.

Coastal road regeneration works worth €1.7 million are already underway and are expected to finish by August 2026.

The Fishing and Sea Museum is also expected to open in 2026 despite major delays caused by a lack of funding for its interior fit-out. The building has been completed for some time.

A process is underway to secure European funding for the museum’s equipment and interior design, estimated at €150,000, according to information from Zygi Community Council.

The museum will display boats, fishing tools and nets, sea-related objects and fish.
