Police have intensified patrols across all districts to combat the illegal use of firecrackers, the lighting of “lambratjia” bonfires, and escalating youth delinquency.
During a night of widespread unrest, police and fire services inspected numerous bonfire sites and open areas where wood had been stockpiled. In coordination with local authorities, officers removed timber and other hazardous materials from these locations.
The operation followed a surge in reports regarding illegal fires and firecracker use throughout the country.

Later, at approximately 6:00 a.m. today, police arrested a 16-year-old in Strovolos during a search of a group of youths. The teenager was detained for public insult, causing a disturbance, and resisting arrest.
