Media outlets are circulating video footage, filmed by a Turkish Cypriot in the occupied north, apparently showing missiles being launched from a submarine north of Cyprus.
The nationality of the submarine is not known. It is reported to have been in international waters at the time of filming. The missiles are believed to have been aimed at Iran, which lies at least 1,200 kilometres from the area.
“Authorities” in the occupied north said the launches did not take place from Cyprus’s territorial waters.
The Turkish Cypriot newspaper YENİDÜZEN reported that it had been established that the footage was recorded in international waters.
The so-called “Presidency Disinformation Centre” in the occupied north also announced that claims circulating on some social media accounts — that multiple missiles were launched from a submarine in the territorial waters of the “TRNC” — did not reflect the truth.
