Rakuten Viber announces Viber Pay will be officially rolled out to all users in Cyprus with its latest app version.
According to a company press release, this new payment function will offer fast and free real-time account-to-account money transfers.
Users in Cyprus can start sending money to each other easily and securely by setting up a digital wallet. Mobile wallets can be created in under a minute via a simple registration that requires email confirmation. This registration enables transactions up to €120, however, with further verification users can send up to €4500. A Viber Pay user can also send money from their wallet to another account even if the recipient does not yet have a Viber wallet.
Cyprus comes after the launch of the payment solution in Germany and Greece.
“Since the digital payment solution is secure, easy to use and cross-border, it is expected to be highly appreciated by users who have family, friends or do business with Greece,” Rakuten Viber said.
Viber’s digital payments were first introduced in Greece and Germany during the summer of 2022. Viber Pay now allows instant and free cross-border transactions between Greece, Germany and Cyprus.
To provide licensed payment services in the first three markets, Viber has partnered with Rapyd, a global Fintech-as-a-Service company. Rapyd embeds its licensed payment processing services directly into the Viber app to power the in-app payments capabilities.
Viber users can access a wide variety of additional financial services, including:
1. Viber to Viber wallet payments: Within Cyprus send and receive money to your friends and family in Viber instantly and free even if they don’t have a Viber wallet
2. Viber Pay in chats: Send and receive money right in your chats in just 3 steps as easy as sending a picture
3. Bank transfers: send payments to any local bank to pay for routine expenses like utility bills for free
4. Exclusive discounts and rewards: users will get an exclusive badge on their profile, Viber Out rewards and partner-sponsored discounts
To start using payments on Viber, users are required to set up a personal identification code or biometric recognition to enable secure transactions.
Payment confirmations are sent automatically with end-to-end encryption, the same as all private communications of Viber. For complete peace of mind, Viber’s support team will be available to answer questions in local languages.
