University of Nicosia among private universities licensed in Greece

Greece’s Education Ministry issued operating licences Friday to four private universities for the 2025-2026 academic year, including the University of Nicosia’s Athens campus.

Greek Deputy Education Minister Nikos Papaioannou announced the approvals following evaluation by the National Authority for Higher Education (ETHAAE) and the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP).

The licensed institutions comprise The Open University’s American College Anatolia in Thessaloniki, the University of York City in Thessaloniki, the University of Keele Greece in Athens, and UNIC Athens.

University of Nicosia establishes Athens campus

The University of Nicosia’s Athens operation, branded as UNIC Athens, received approval to operate six schools: Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Sciences and Engineering, Life and Health Sciences, and Law.

The Open University’s American College Anatolia will offer three schools in Thessaloniki covering Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, and Technology and Sciences.

York City University’s Thessaloniki campus received licences for Law and Humanities, Sciences, and Business Administration schools. The University of Keele’s Athens branch will operate Law, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Medicine and Health Sciences schools.
