Unions call general strike for 11 September over cost-of-living adjustments

Trade unions will proceed with a general strike on 11 September over the Automatic Cost-of-Living Adjustment (CoLA) dispute.

At the pan-union conference held on Monday at PEO headquarters, trade union organisations decided to proceed with a three-hour work stoppage from 11am to 2pm on Thursday, 11 September.

The strike decision follows failed negotiations between unions and employer organisations over the restoration of the automatic indexation system.

Union leaders had previously declared that full restoration of CoLA was a basic prerequisite for continuing dialogue after talks at the Labour Ministry revealed major divisions between the social partners.
