Troodos ski slope closed after 4×4 vehicles damage piste hours after opening (photos)

The Sun Valley I (Aphrodite) ski slope at Troodos ski centre has been declared non-functional and dangerous just 24 hours after opening, after unknown persons drove 4×4 vehicles onto the piste during the night, causing extensive damage.

The vehicles entered the slope area and damaged the snow-covered ground, rendering it unsuitable for skiers, according to reports. Fences installed to prevent vehicle access to the area were breached to allow the vehicles in.

The meteorological platform Kitasweather said similar incidents occur frequently with the first snows, when snow depth does not deter vehicles from entering the slopes.

The Sun Valley I slope will remain closed until further notice. The Family Run SV 1 slope, exclusively for beginners, continues to operate, as does the Sun Valley BABY Lift.

The North Face lift remains open to the public exclusively for walking and viewing from above but is not being used for skiing purposes on that particular slope.
