Traffic towards Troodos was increased, but without causing congestion, mainly through the Morphou area in Nicosia and through the area of Platres in Limassol at 13:00 on Tuesday, the Police said in a statement, clarifying that no particular problems were observed in the road network of urban areas and motorways.
In the same statement, the Police note that later on, increased traffic on the roads is expected due to the return to urban areas.
The statement adds that, as every year, the police force will be on the alert during the festive period for the safety of the public traveling on the road network and appeals once again to drivers to be very careful when driving and to comply with the road traffic code, traffic signals, and the instructions of the police officers on duty.
The police point out that complying with basic rules and simple safety measures, such as observing the speed limit, using seat belts and child seats, and the use of protective helmets by motorcyclists can ensure the safe return of citizens.
The police stress that using a mobile phone while driving and drinking alcohol before driving are factors that increase the chances of causing a road traffic collision and can and should also be easily avoided.
