The island’s eight traffic cameras have recorded over 118,000 violations during their first seven and a half months of operation, Philenews reported on Wednesday.
But only half of the fines have been sent out to those committing violations which have been reduced to 200 per day.
Nonetheless, violations from the first day of the year till August 17 rose to 118,056 – a number quite high for such a time period.
It is also estimated that with the remaining 16 mobile cameras and 20 fixed ones to come in effect early in January reports will sky-rise and be a test whether the system can cope.
Insiders said the contracting company should – with the implementation of phase A of the system – send the out-of-court fines five days after the violations are recorded.
The company is already making efforts to send the remaining ones as soon as possible in order to abide by this specific condition of the contract.
