Tornado rips through Tala, severing at least ten trees and sparking cable fire

A tornado struck Tala on Friday evening, severing at least ten trees and causing damage to premises near the Vrasidas Folk Art Museum and a car park.

Ioannis Konnikos, president of the Tala Community Council, said he was notified on Friday evening that EAC cables in the car park caught fire from a fallen tree.

The EAC was immediately notified for repairs, Konnikos added, resulting in a two-hour electricity cut.

On Saturday morning, the community council president was notified about uprooted trees that fell on premises near the Vrasidas Folk Art Museum, causing damage.

The community leader said that because the damages are considerable, they will see how the community authority can help.

Vrasidas Neofytou, the museum owner, said the damages are significant, adding that they experienced a similar tornado phenomenon ten years ago.
