Tiered speed camera fines to take effect on 1 March, minister confirms

Cyprus will begin enforcing a new tiered fine system for fixed traffic cameras on 1 March, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades confirmed at today’s session of the Parliamentary Transport Committee, with a cabinet note to follow for formal approval.

Under the legislation, motorists who stop on a pedestrian crossing at a red light will face an out-of-court fine of €85, down from the current €300. The €300 fine is retained, however, for vehicles that stop beyond the pedestrian crossing or enter an intersection while the red light is active.

A separate €25 fine for failing to stop before the stop line at a traffic signal remains in force.
