Three Nicosia churches’ epitaph processions to meet at Eleftherias Square on Good Friday

Nicosia Municipality and three churches will hold their annual Good Friday epitaph meeting at the bridge of Eleftherias Square tonight at 9:30pm, following processions through the walled city.

The Churches of Panagia Faneromeni, Archangel Michael Trypiotis and Agios Savvas are taking part in the tradition, with processions led by priests and church committees accompanied by state, municipal and military authorities. The Bishop of Nitria and Exarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa in Cyprus, Nicodemos, will preside.

The Faneromeni epitaph will be carried by a unit of the Pan-Cyprian Association of Reserve Commandos, accompanied by the Cyprus Police Philharmonic, with members of the 76th Strovolos Scout Group also taking part.

The Trypiotis epitaph will be carried by the 40th Engomi Scout Group, accompanied by the band of the 71st Kaimakli Scout Group.

The Agios Savvas epitaph will be accompanied by the 107th Lykavittos Scout Group.

Throughout the event, hymns will be chanted by the lead chanters of each church with their choirs.
