Teenager killed in horrific dawn accident on Limassol-Nicosia motorway, driver arrested

It was the third fatal in less than 24 hours across Cyprus. A few hours after a 28 year old Ukrainian motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and a 66 year old woman also died after being run over weeks ago, a teenage girl tragically lost her life.

17 year old Aliki Nikolaou from Lympia, on the outskirts of the capital, was killed in a double cabin truck at around two thirty this morning.

The accident happened near the Kakoratzia area when the double cabin, being driven by a 22 year old Greek-Cypriot, attempted to enter the Limassol-Nicosia motorway from a left speed lane, but veered off course.

After the driver lost control, the car violently hit the protective motorway railing, at speed, and came to a stop. Four other Greek Cypriots from Nicosia district communities were in the vehicle at the time and were freed from the wreckage by the fire service. The impact killed 17 year old Aliki instantly. She was riding in the back seat. The rest of the passengers only suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the Larnaca General and discharged.
