Strovolos municipality has announced construction work on its historic centre will begin on 12 January 2026, unveiling a detailed timeline for the €5.6 million project.
Mayor Stavros Stavrinides described it as a landmark project that will radically change the appearance and functionality of the municipality’s historic centre, according to a press release.
He stressed that all measures have been taken to ensure the project becomes a jewel for all of Cyprus.
Municipal engineer Athanasios Kolyvas presented the implementation phases and corresponding timetable for construction works.
The public had an opportunity to ask questions about the progress of works and how the daily lives of residents and businesses in the historic centre will be affected.
The historic centre regeneration project, with a budget of €5.6 million, focuses on the area around Strovolos’s historic churches (Church of Panagia Chryseleousa and Saint George).
It aims to create a safe, accessible and attractive public space with new pedestrian areas, improved infrastructure, upgraded aesthetics and solutions to flooding issues, according to the press release.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALEIA 2021-2027” with EU co-financing.
