Strovolos flat fire leaves resident with burns as firefighters rescue trapped dog

A fire broke out in a second-floor flat in Strovolos on Saturday morning, lightly injuring one resident and prompting two people to be taken to hospital as a precaution.

Nicosia fire stations responded after 06:26 with four vehicles, including a telescopic ladder truck, to a residence made up of two merged flats. Firefighters entered the property and extinguished the blaze using water hoses while wearing breathing apparatus.

The resident suffered minor burns to his hand, while both he and his wife were taken to Nicosia General Hospital after inhaling smoke. An ambulance was called to the scene.

During the operation, firefighters also rescued a dog that had been trapped inside the flat.
