Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will lash Cyprus today, according to the Meteorological Department. Forecasters expect hail in some areas, while snow will fall on the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains.
A Yellow Warning for thunderstorms and hail takes effect at 11:00 and remains in force until 20:00.
Storms Spread from the West
Low pressure now grips the region, bringing intermittent dust to the atmosphere. Clouds will thicken throughout the day, triggering local showers and storms that start in the west before spreading across the island.
Winds will blow northeast to southeast at 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 5 Beaufort. These winds will intensify and shift abruptly during storm activity. The sea will remain slight to moderate. Temperatures will peak at 20°C inland and on the coast, dropping to 10°C in the high mountains.
Frost to Form Tonight
The weather will turn partly cloudy tonight, though isolated showers may persist along the coast. Temperatures will fall to 8°C inland and 11°C on the coast. In the highest mountain peaks, the mercury will hit 4°C, causing frost to form locally.
Unsettled Start to the Week
Partial cloud cover and sporadic rain will continue through Monday and Tuesday. High peaks should expect more snow or sleet. By Wednesday, conditions will clear slightly, though isolated showers remain possible.
Temperatures will stay steady throughout the next three days, remaining slightly above the seasonal average.
