State abolishes fees for three- to four-year-olds in state nurseries

Cyprus has abolished tuition fees for children aged three to four years and five months attending state nurseries, the Council of Ministers decided.

The decision means children who fill places in state nurseries but are below the compulsory education age limit will no longer pay fees.

Education Minister Athina Michaelidou announced the policy change, stating, “At the Council of Ministers we approved the abolition of fees for children attending state nurseries aged 3 years to 4 years and 5 months”.

She said children filling places in state nurseries who are under the compulsory education age threshold would not pay tuition fees under the new policy.

The minister described the measure as both a social policy supporting families and an educational initiative to strengthen pre-school attendance.
