The government will place social workers in schools with high delinquency rates as part of a pilot programme starting Monday, Education Minister Athina Michaelidou announced during a press conference on the new academic year 2025-2026.
The ministry will deploy social workers to selected institutions on a trial basis to address issues in schools with broader social implications, Michaelidou said Friday.
The initiative responds to a request from various educational stakeholders and represents the ministry’s efforts to manage significant problems affecting the school system, according to the minister.
The programme will initially focus on institutions showing problematic behaviour, though the ministry has not specified which schools will participate or how many social workers will be deployed.
The new school year begins Monday.
