Shots fired during dramatic chase for stolen car in Agia Napa

Police launched a fierce pursuit in the early hours of the morning after officers discovered a stolen car in the Agia Napa area.

Around 1:30 am, officers identified the vehicle, which had been previously reported as stolen, and signalled the driver to stop for inspection. The driver ignored the police command, immediately accelerating to evade capture.

As the suspect attempted to escape, the driver collided with two patrol cars. Officers fired warning shots in an effort to bring the vehicle to a halt.

The car then drove onto the Larnaca–Agia Napa motorway, entering the opposite lane of traffic. As the car exited the motorway, the driver crashed into a third police vehicle.

The driver steered onto a dirt track in an area controlled by the British Bases, abandoned the car, and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The three police vehicles sustained minor damage. The Agia Napa Police Station and the Famagusta CID are investigating the case.
