Police on Tuesday are patrolling places of Jewish interest in Paphos the district’s CID head Michalis Nikolaou stated.
The increased protection measures in specific spots have been taken since Saturday morning, the police chief told the Cyprus News Agency.
Nikolaou said security measures around Jewish establishments are being stepped up as per instructions from headquarters,.
Following tourism development overtures towards the Israeli market in recent years, increasing numbers of Israelis have taken advantage of the many opportunities in the district.
Many Israelis have invested in the hotel and catering industry and one of the largest groups in the state’s hospitality sector operates hotel units in Paphos. Others own holiday homes and apartments, and a Jewish synagogue operates in the city.
