Residence, employment permit applications soon to be submitted also at KEPs

The inconvenience of thousands of European citizens and British nationals when it comes to procedures concerning either their residence or employment in Cyprus could soon to an end.

Because they will soon be able to submit applications also at their local Citizen Service Centres (KEPs), Philenews reported on Tuesday.

At the same time, it opens the way to reduce the hassle for third country nationals employed by companies of foreign interests and who need to regulate their legal residence in Cyprus.

Some of the permits or certificates are issued by the Civil Registry and Migration Department at their headquarters and this entails a great deal of inconvenience.

One must apply for a residence permit renewal at least one month before it expires.

A KEP officer also told Philenews that, for some time now, talks focus on how to make it possible to include in the Centres in some additional immigration services to serve European citizens. As well as British citizens since they are no longer members of the EU.

Under the provisions of the bill under draft, the Director of the Population and Immigration Registry Department may also authorise staff who are not part of the Department to carry out certain tasks. In particular, Citizen Service Centres’ staff, the officer said.
