Rescue at Cape Greco prompts warning against cliff jumping

A woman was rescued by the fire services after falling at the Cape Greco sea caves in Famagusta, the famous attraction near Protaras and Ayia Napa.

Fire services spokesman Andreas Kettis on Friday again warned the public that jumping off the cliffs into the sea below is strictly forbidden as the area has been classified as dangerous by the geological survey department.

Kettis explained that the woman was rescued and transported from the scene by stretcher, with the ambulance services then taking over the case.

She was then transported to Famagusta general hospital for further care.

The Cyprus Mail wrote last year that recent efforts to dissuade locals and visitors from risking diving and jumping at the site are being ignored.

Ayia Napa municipality recently installed signs warning the public of the danger of jumping off the cliffs.

A municipal worker was even recently staffed to observe the area, although their warnings are often ignored – while they work between 9am-5pm.
