Report on Thanasis’ death given to his family without names

During a meeting of Attorney General George Savvides with Loukis Loukaides, the lawyer of the family of national guardsman Thanasis Nicolaou who died 17 years ago, it was decided that the two sides would cooperate for the better outcome of the case, Phileleftheros reported citing information.

So, within the framework of the family’s right to complete information on the case, it was decided that the report on the investigators’ findings would be given to the family, without, however, the names of the persons suspected of involvement in the case.

At the same time, it was also decided to give to the family the testimonial material of the case so that the family and its lawyer would be aware of the point of investigation.

Furthermore, the Attorney General, according to the same information, gave to the lawyer the names of the four police investigators, who have been recently appointed to continue the investigations.

Following these developments, it seems that investigations will resume since there will be full cooperation among the Legal Service, the investigators, and the family.

Before yesterday’s development, Andriana Nicolaou, mother of Thanasis, had sent a letter to the Attorney General, requesting the whole report.

Also, a protest by friends and supporters of Thanasis’ family had taken place outside the Legal Service on Saturday.

Nicolaou, 25, was found dead under a bridge in Alassa, Limassol, in 2005. His death had been ruled a suicide by authorities, however, his family has been disputing the ruling for the past 17 years, saying that their son was a victim of bullying and claiming that the initial ruling was the result of a cover-up.
