A high-pressure system currently affecting Cyprus will give way to a low-pressure system from Thursday evening, bringing rain, thunderstorms and strong winds by the weekend.
Intermittent thin dust will remain in the atmosphere until Thursday evening.
Wednesday will see intermittent increased medium and high cloud cover. Winds will blow from the northeast to southeast at light to moderate strength, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally moderate at 4 Beaufort. The sea will be up to moderate.
Temperatures will reach 20°C inland, around 21°C on the coast and 15°C in the higher mountains.
Thursday will bring similar cloud conditions, but local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the evening, starting from the west and gradually spreading to other parts of the island.
Snow or sleet is forecast for the higher peaks of Troodos, whilst locally very strong winds are expected to develop gradually.
Friday will see intermittent local rain, isolated thunderstorms, very strong to stormy winds and snow in the higher mountains.
Saturday’s weather will be partly cloudy to intermittently partly cloudy, with local rain and snow in the higher mountains expected.
Temperatures will show no significant change on Thursday and will continue to remain above climatological averages. A noticeable drop is forecast for Friday, with a slight rise on Saturday bringing temperatures near climatological averages.
