Quake of magnitude 5.2 shakes Greece’s Preveza area

Greece on Tuesday morning was shaken near Preveza, Epirus, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2.

This is what the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported, adding that the quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2 kilometres beneath the epicenter near Preveza.

Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.

A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake.

A third agency, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3. No injuries or damages were reported as yet.
