An inmate at the Nicosia central prisons was in hospital on Monday after he set himself on fire.
The man is currently being treated for severe burns and breathing problems after reports said he lit himself and cell up in flames.
Police officers were trying to get to the bottom of how the prisoner in wing four managed to get his hands on equipment that could be used to start a fire.
