President Nikos Christodoulides on Wednesday is headed to Brussels for the two-day European Union Summit.

The final text of the summit conclusion is expected to make reference on the readiness of the EU to play a more active role in the process of resolving the Cyprus issue.

Among other things, it is expected that the EU council will restate its commitment to a comprehensive settlement, within the framework of the United Nations and on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the security council and the European acquis.

During Tuesday’s session of the general affairs council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, underlined that the initiative of the President towards more active involvement of Brussels in the Cyprus issue could be the decisive factor in breaking the deadlock and ushering in a return to negotiations.

During the summit, the situation in Ukraine, and EU migration, finance, defence and security issues will be discussed.

In addition, the member state heads will have a working lunch with the Nato Secretary General.
