President Christodoulides grants release of Kenan Ayaz

President Nikos Christodoulides has granted a release request for Kurdish man Kenan Ayaz, who had been held in detention since March 2023, CNA reported.

Christodoulides signed the request on Friday, according to CNA.

He had returned to the island to serve the remainder of his sentence, after his extradition to Germany.

Ayaz, 50, was sentenced by a German court in September 2024 to four years and three months in prison for alleged membership of the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK), and had been detained in Germany for over two years.
