Police warn of scammers posing as Electricity Authority staff in Limassol

The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department has received complaints in recent days about fraudsters posing as employees of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and extracting money from unsuspecting residents for bogus power restorations.

According to police, the suspects visit houses and apartment buildings, speaking Greek and claiming to be EAC staff. They tell residents they are there to fix an electricity outage.

Investigations indicate that the fraudsters lower the power supply switch from the external EAC distribution board, creating the impression of a fault. They then restore the switch and pretend they have repaired the problem, demanding payment for the supposed service.

Police are urging the public to remain particularly vigilant. Anyone who encounters such or similar incidents is asked to contact their nearest police station, the Limassol CID on 25805057, or the Citizens’ Hotline on 1460.
