Authorities have acted on witness accounts conveyed by Animal Party Cyprus over the systematic disappearance of cats from certain areas of the capital over the past few weeks and reports over their possible consumption by a number of individuals.
According to a police statement this morning, members of the Animal unit, accompanied by a Veterinary Services representative, searched two apartments at a Nicosia suburb, following relevant approval by its residents, but discovered nothing that might raise suspicion of cat eating.
Following this latest incident, officers are calling on the public to immediately report abuse and neglect of animals or any issue connected with their welfare.
‘We will investigate all complaints with responsibility and diligence’, the police noted, adding that allegations without tangible evidence, are not enough for authorities to investigate and make a case.
‘Animal welfare concerns everyone and through citizens and competent bodies cooperation we can secure their safety’, the statement concludes.
