Police operations lead to seven arrests and 211 traffic complaints overnight

Preventive police operations, with an increased presence in key areas across urban centres, continued throughout last night. The operations aimed to prevent serious criminal acts, protect citizens, and ensure public order, according to a police statement.

As part of these operations, police proceeded with the arrest of seven individuals for various offences, structured as follows:

  • One person arrested for the illegal possession of a small quantity of drugs.
  • A 63-year-old arrested in connection with a building burglary case.
  • One person arrested regarding a domestic violence case.
  • Two arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • One person arrested for illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus.
  • One person arrested for the offence of failure to comply with police instructions.

Police stated that during the night, over 600 vehicles were stopped and checked, with more than 750 occupants screened. Additionally, 34 premises were inspected to deter and suppress delinquent behaviour, resulting in four complaints regarding licence violations.

From traffic controls conducted, a total of 211 complaints were issued for various road violations. These included 87 for excessive speed and 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, four drivers were detected positive in drug tests. The total number of alcohol tests conducted on drivers amounted to 438. In the context of investigating traffic offences, eight vehicles were seized.
