Police on patrol rescue sleeping man from burning Larnaca house

Police officers on patrol in the Oroklini area of Larnaca rescued a 36-year-old man from a house fire on Thursday morning after spotting the blaze and entering the property through a window to find him asleep inside.

The officers were on patrol at around 9:15am when they noticed fire had broken out at a residential property and three vehicles parked in the yard. They immediately searched the house, entering through a window, and found the man sleeping in a second-floor room, unaware of the fire.

The Fire Service, called to the scene by police, extinguished the blaze. Investigators found the fire had started in a vehicle belonging to the 71-year-old homeowner, caused by a short circuit from an overheating charger that had been connected to the vehicle’s battery. It spread to two other vehicles — belonging to the homeowner and a 68-year-old relative — and to the house itself, where the 36-year-old relative had been sleeping.

All three vehicles were completely destroyed. The kitchen, living room and a first-floor room sustained extensive damage.

The investigation is continuing by Oroklini Police Station.
