Police officer injured by discharge of service weapon in Paralimni

A police officer was injured after a discharge of a service weapon in the Paralimni Police Station on Monday evening.

According to an announcement by police, the incident took place at approximately 19:45 today, when a service weapon accidentally discharged during the standard security procedures required for the handover/takeover of firearms, which was being conducted by two members of the force.

As a result, one police officer sustained an injury to the leg. The injured officer was transported by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital, where it was determined they sustained a superficial wound to the left leg. The officer is expected to receive stitches and be discharged shortly.

The Chief of Police has ordered an investigation into the incident.
