Police investigate attempted murder after Larnaca stabbing leaves victim critical

Police are investigating inconsistencies in a stabbing victim’s account after finding no blood traces at the Larnaca location where they claimed they were attacked, whilst a search of their recently rented Airbnb apartment uncovered drugs, scales and €300 in cash.

The 32-year-old underwent emergency surgery for an abdominal stab wound on Friday evening and remained in critical condition at Larnaca General Hospital on Saturday. But investigators found no blood at the scene where they said the attack occurred—and believe the actual crime may have happened elsewhere.

Officers were alerted around 5.15pm Friday to an injured person on a Larnaca road. They found the victim with an abdominal wound and rushed them to hospital for surgery.

The victim told police that whilst at that location, a person exited a vehicle of a specific colour and stabbed them unprovoked before stealing their mobile phone.

However, police found no blood traces at the scene. Instead, they discovered bloody apartment keys that had apparently fallen from the victim’s clothing, and followed a trail of small blood stains on a nearby apartment building’s staircase.

Investigations revealed the victim had been seen injured at 5pm in an adjacent field—15 minutes before police were called and before they reached the road where they claimed the attack occurred. Police found no blood traces at that location either, raising questions about where the stabbing actually took place.

A search warrant issued based on the apartment keys led police to a flat rented via Airbnb just two days earlier. Inside, officers found 6.5 grams of crystalline substance, a bottle with crystalline substance traces, a grinder with cannabis traces, a plastic container with white powder traces, syringes and two precision scales—equipment typically associated with drug dealing. The Drug Squad seized the items along with €300 in cash.

No blood traces were found inside the apartment.

Police do not rule out that the crime scene may be at a different location from any of the sites examined so far.
