Police identify two suspects after explosion at Russian businessman’s Limassol restaurant

Police are investigating an explosion at premises belonging to a well-known Russian businessman in Limassol, the third time the same individual has been targeted, police said.

The blast occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. at the entrance of a fast-food outlet in the old harbour area near Limassol Castle, causing material damage. Initial investigations suggest two suspects were seen approaching the premises on foot shortly before the explosion.

Assistant Deputy Chief of Police Lefteris Kyriakou, speaking at the scene, said a bomb disposal assessment indicated that a low-power improvised explosive device had been planted and detonated at the entrance, causing damage to the property.

Kyriakou said this was the third time the individual had been targeted. Investigations remain at an early stage. The businessman does not appear to have received any recent threats, though complaints had been made in the past, and police had made arrests in connection with previous incidents.

Officers cordoned off the scene and began collecting evidence, including closed-circuit television footage. Authorities said they were continuing to gather and evaluate evidence with a view to identifying and arresting the perpetrators. Enhanced security measures have been put in place for both the individual and his property.
